Hi, long time no post!
First dunk of the year was yesterday and most went well. Except at first it would not come out of reverse while running at very low rpms. Around 550.
Then later when fully warm the rpms would stay low for longer than normal. Not a stall but slow and then recovering.
I do realize that the Alpha drives briefly cut the ignition to allow the gears to slip out to neutral. Also I took the shifter off the motor the other day while leaving the cables attached. I was doing an unrelated thing to the valve cover. I just let the shift hang off to the side as I have done numerous times, but maybe I messed it up.
It's going to rain for a couple of days so once the weather improves I will check the shifter setup. I'll see if the lower cable moves well then too.
Can't remember when or if I have done this cable. When I bought this boat it had been serviced by a pro previously and all was well in the drive and engine bay. I have fine adjusted the shift a time or two. So I think the cable has 100 to 200 hours on it.
If it's a little dodgy should it get some silicone spray lube? Or anything at all?
Oh, and is there any polarity on the shift switch wiring? Maybe I swapped the leads.
TIA

no polarity on the shift interrupt switch

verify all adjustments are correct, silicone spray may help but if your lower cable is hanging up its probably time to replace it

with a friend at helm, make sure interrupt switch is working. u could have damaged wire going back to coil. if my memory serves me correctly, an interrupt 12 vt wire goes back to coil. or, switch went bad????

gen ii would most likely be equipped with a thunderbolt ignition, shift interrupt works with the wht/grn wire into the ignition module

shift interrupt that wires to coil would be on a conventional (points) ignition system

simple test for interrupt switch is to engage it manually with the engine running, if engine dies then switch is working. in that case there may be the need for and adjustment of the switch, cable(s), v-spring may need replaced, or cable could be worn to point of needing replaced

Yes, it's wired TB V. I'll go over the system for cable movement and shift adjustment. If the cable sticks , I'll stick in a freshy!

I'll tell you ,even though it was only 60 degrees yesterday it was glorious getting the boat out. Last year I had shoulder surgery in May and could not handle the boat til August.

I went out this morning and checked. Cable moves but has resistance.
I'll remove the drive and see if the cable is dodgy when it's free at the drive end too.
