For all those friends with much more experience than my one time doing the transom bellows kit etc....bout killed me....I had a few questions for advice.
I had salt water get into the bilge via the ujoint bellows a couple weeks ago and now have take everything out from gimble bearing to all hoses and bellows. I also need to put in a new lower shift cable, which I have no experience with. Everything is apart and I want to start putting together.
1. Do I need to replace or worry about the ujoints? They seem ok, but there was water in there for a short time. Or can I just grease them well and reinstall?
2. Do I really need to order the shift cable tool for taking loose the transom nut, or is a deep socket ok,,,and what's the mm or size?
3. Is there any adhesive I can use besides ordering a tube of the Merc bellows glue....for a likely one time use?
4. Is it easier to do the shift cable first, or start in another order and do it at a given point?
5. I do not have the gimble bearing placement tool...any other socket or tool set up that will drive it home ok?
Thanks for any good guidance, I am hoping to survive this, do a good job, and escape a big mechanic bill, or buying all the special tools right now, I do have some..
