I have a 2001 pontoon that had a 3.0l alpha one gen 2 drive. I am changing engines to a 4.3. I have EVERYTHING for the 4.3 swap but when it comes to changing the gimbal housing and transome plate I would like to not change that because I had just rebuilt it with new boots, shift cable and sensors And I currently have power steering. The new transome plate is for manual steering not sure if it makes them different or not. When I compare the two they are identical except the gen 2 has the external oil reservoir and the rams are different. The gimbal bearing is set at the same back spacing between the two and the bearing is the same size. The engine has the gen one coupler. So is there any reason that I cannot use the gen one drive on gen 2 gimbal housing?

Can you explain how the shifting is different? I’m looking at it but don’t see anything obvious but maybe missing something
Never mind I figured it out, the shift shaft in the gimbal housing sits 1/2” lower in the gen 2. I could modify it but I will change the housing , I don’t feel like screwing around and finding out I’m wrong. Thank you for the info you saved me a headache

Is your Gen 2 drive in good shape? are you swapping it just for the V6 ratio? If you are just doing it for the V6 drive ration keep the gen 2 and go up in prop pitch 2"
