Alpha one Gen1Shift-shaft question

When my lower shiftcable is unhooked from the engine, and I push it all inn(from outside), it does not go far enough to engage reverse. I do not get the correct angel on the shift-shaft shoe.. The shaft looks ok, it is not bend, and both the shaft and the cable is operating very smooth. The distance from the 'bellhousing' and the outher 'fork-pin' on the shiftslide is 58mm. (sorry I can't explain this with som images..)<br /><br />The slide can still go some furhter in, but I think it maybe stops in the 'plastic-tube part'.<br /><br />The angel on the driveunit-shaft is ok I think, because it is straight forward when in forward.<br />Can not find anything about this in my mercruiser rep-manual.<br /><br />Any suggestions?<br /><br />mvh<br />Aardal

First ck the leagth of the outer shift cable, in fwd gear the the prop turned c/clockwist(to fully ingauge the shift dog the cable should measure 6 inchs ceter to center on the attachment hole and the adjustment barrel, then with the control box cable disconnected move the outter shift lever manually and see if the unit shifts by someone turning the prop, if it shifts you have a adjustment problem and if it don't you have a unit problem. If the unit had water in it over winter you could have a carrier pushed, that is common problem around here in the spring---Bob

..when shifting manually on the driveunit when it is of the boat, and turning the prop, the shifting is OK both in forward and reverse. The problem must be somewere around the shaft/lever/cablefixing in the bellhouse..
