Alpha One lube question here..

Boat..1989 Glastron 3.0l Mercruiser. My question is about the zerk fittings on the sterndrive. I found four. There's three obvious ones facing aft and one on the starboard side near the exhaust. That one is hard for me to tell if I've put enough grease in. The others show the excess no problem. My questions are how can I tell if I've put enough in the fourth fitting(I shoot in five good pumps) and are there any other zerk fittings on the Alpha One?

The best time to grease that one is when the drive is off. It greases the gimbal bearing. Just pump on the zirk till new grease comes out of the bearing, turn the bearing to a different spot and pump some more. Do this till you get clean grease each time. Then clean up the excess grease so it doesn't get all over everything. Check the alignment, grease the splines with some spline grease, grease the zirks on the ujoints if you have them, and re-install the drive. Now ALL the maintenance is done instead of just greasing a zirk.

Ayuh,... Most of it purges into the bellows,... some into the motorbox, 'n on the driveshaft...

If I'm just givin' a boat a Quick Once-over, 'n not the full service Don explains,...
I pump 'bout 10 pumps into it, runnin' on the muffs...

Yer 5 pumps is probably enough though...

The Most Greaseable of the Alphas, were the 1st's of 'em,... '83, or so...

They've been loosin' grease fittin's ever since,...

Yer's may, or may not have the 1 on the lower swivel pin...
