Alpha One shift adjustment

Just did bellows and bearing repair. Trying to get the shifter zeroed in. Hard to find the sweet spot using the brass piece that adjusts the cable at the top of the engine ( 3.0 4 cyl ). I can get it to go into forward or reverse but finding just the right place to put the brass adjuster to get both seems tricky. Hard to find the "sweet spot" in other words. It may be only an issue of keep on trying but thought I would post it here if anyone had any useful tricks.

Thanks. Found the real problem I think. The post the shift cable attaches to is adjustable. It was in the position to give minimum throw thru the cable to the outdrive. I moved it to the maximum throw position. On the hose in the driveway seems to work. Some more work to do then put it in the water for testing.
