Well done fishrdan that looks really good and thanks for the pics. Also thanks to Technorunner confirming the internal workings of the microswitch. Can't believe that some people feel it would be more prudent to pay excess of ?100 for the simplest microswitch i've ever seen.
I got a Microswitch from a friend looks very similar to fishrdans. I'm going to make a bracket up at work over the weekend.
I went down to work on the boat last week and my Y piece moves whenever I move remote. Not happy.
I've removed Lower unit and upper outdrive, Removed end from boat side of rear shift cable, attatched a tube and squirted wd40 down it (thinnest oil i could think of), Worked the cable in and out untill it was looser. Put back together and left lower unit off but Y piece still moving.
Next thing i'm going to do is pull the inner cable out, inspect for kinks. Lube outer sheaf with gear oil and re-assemble.
The Y piece it self doesn't feel 2 stiff to move but the spring arms seem strong enough.
Is it possible for the aft end of the cable to get caught up in the outdrive?
As a side note the arm and recepticle tube in the outdrive appear to move freely.

Ayuh,.... You don't lube lower shift cables, you Replace it....

I think he's talking about the bracket that the roller for the switch sits in.

I Agree with Bond-o, if the cable is binding it needs to be replaced.

Lubing the cable might free it up some, but the lube will cause it to drag too much,,,,,, and activate the shift interrupt switch at the wrong time.

Ok cheers guys. I did remove the inner and lubed cable but I shall look to replace in the very near future. This has free'd up the bracket. If I do have problems when i'm on the boat I understand the system enough now to get myself back to shore.
I'm initialy taking the boat on to a river and I have just fixed an old 4hp outboard motor that I can keep in the boat for emergency's.
I'm rather keen to get the boat into the water as I purchased it in Nov and haven't got it wet yet. Hopefully the weather will be nice over the next 2 weeks.
