After watching several instructional videos and reading some manuals on how to do the water pump on an Alpha One, It doesn't seem too hard, but I have one question. Once you reassemble the upper gearcase and lower unit, how does the mate between the two units seal? I've never seen anything about a gasket placed between them or any type of sealer. The mechanics in the videos just clean the surfaces and bolt them together. Is sealing this area necessary? If so, how do you do it?

Re: Alpha One Water Pump

there is a seal between the upper and lower.
the quad ring that seals the gear lub passage between the upper and lower. it's a small rubber flat washer/oring type looking thing.
other than that. agree. there is no other seal between upper and lower. but ya gotta have that quad ring in place.

Alright, thanks for the help. I'll be sure to replace that oil seal. I think there's a new one in the water pump kit.
