Hello
I have a 190hp 3.7 merc with an Alpha drive. I am having trouble shifting into neutral from either forward or reverse. I have to shut down the engine for it to go into reverse. I told a mechanic about the problem and over the winter he looked at it and said it was because the neutal stall switch was missing and he replaced it for me. Still having the same problem. You can imagine the difficulty I had at the dock, not to mention the damage it can be causing to the drive slamming between directions. any ideas what it can be would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Vic

Re: Alpha shift problem

You still have a problem with your shift interrupt system. Either the switch or the wiring to it isn't working, or the mechanism that moves the switch is not working.
You can check the electrical part by starting the engine and with your finger, activate the switch. If the engine dies the electrical is working properly.
