After installing new impeller assy, Alpha 1 Gen 2, when setting drive housing onto the gear housing, how do i know if the water tube that goes into the upper drive housing is lined up & correctly in the O ring & do I replace that O ring (#88393) also?? Also do I use 2-4-C on impeller blades or liquid soap or else...Thanks again...

Water Pump Face Seal

Water Pump Face Seal

The instructions (dated 1994) with impeller kit 47-43026Q06 says to ensure the driveshaft is in the lowest position before installing face seal... The manual #14 downloaded from here says to pull up on the shaft when setting seal on top of pump housing....um I'm thinking the one that says to pull up on shaft... Correct ?? Thanks

Go with the manual. Those are really old instructions and not the same as the new ones.
When you pull up on the shaft, that is how the shaft will be when the engine is running.

Pictures, I doubt they are rubber. They do have a rubber line on them, but the gasket is not rubber. That or you are looking at something I'm not understanding.

The stainless plate seems to have rubberized gaskets bonded to it, won't come off. Will post pics soon..

Yes, that "newer" style makes installing the water pump cover a breeze when used with the guide pins; no longer need to worry about the 3 separate gaskets getting misaligned.

If you did not buy the guide-pins, I can't quite remember the exact spec on the pump cover bolts, so match up those bolts at a hardware store then buy a matching bolt and cut the end off to use as guide-pins.

I asked my Merc. dealer about using any sealer under the 1-piece gasket as it is rubber, he said no need to adding that the instructions that came with the kit did not indicate a need to either.

A little dish soap inside the pump cover and on the vanes then follow the instructions turning the shaft as you push the pump cover down over the impeller.
