i can't split my outdrive to change the impellor because it is stuck together.

i've heard that split my outdrive by cutting 4 wooden wedges and 'tapping' 2 of them together 2 each on port and 2 each on starboard side to spread the units...between the upper and lower to aid in splitting a stuck outdrive.

I have 2 port, 2 starboard, 1 front, 1 annode bolts removed. That's all of "them, there, dun bolts".
I believe there is salt on the studs and they weren't sufficiently lubed 2 years ago.

Has anyone done this and what should i be careful of ?

i am planning on making 4"x1" wedges.

i plan on doing a write up and a youtube video because NOBODY seems to show how its done right. I've seen ugly approaches that destroy the unit.

Did you remove the bolt under the anode, or just the anode bolt?

isn't there 2 fasteners at the back

if I recall correctly...

the trim tab bolt, and then once that is removed, there's another bolt at the back that installs from underneath (hidden by the tab)

makes 7 fasteners total

A lot of times I find they are corroded at the dowel pins, so I always apply grease to them as well during assembly.

I've had my Alpha 1 Gen 2 outdrive apart twice and both times I thought it was stuck only to find I didn't have all the bolts removed... You think I would have learned after the first time...
