As luck would have it it looks like I have already ruined my new boat's prop. This is my first boat so I guess there is a learning curve that goes with it.

I already got a nice chip out of the leading edge and it looks like there is a slight bend in one of the blades.

Are props easy to replace yourself or do I have to take it to a shop? I found Mercury Black Max replacement props on ebay for a reasonable price compared to what the dealer told me.

Thanks for the advice!

Prop replacement is easy, except for the first time.Isn't it covered in your owners manual?

Just make sure it's the same pitch. It's about the easiest thing you can do to the motor. Remove cotter pin or lockwasher, remove the nut and remove the prop. Put a little grease on the driveshaft splines when you reinstall it so it will come off easier next time.Use a new lockwasher/cotter pin. Torque prop to specs using a torque wrench...

Howdy, Aqualight.

Welcome to iboats. :)

This belongs in the Mercruiser or Prop Forum, not here. This is for Mercury Outboard engine problems.

Please repost in the Prop Forum.

Good luck. :)
