Okay guys I am finnally getting to work on my boat. I have a 1979 slickcraft sl 200 with a mercruiser 260. When I got the boat it had no motor in it. I have put in a motor out of a 1979 chevy truck. The motor is in now aligned and I am working on bolting all the marine parts on. I have the water pump and power stearing pump mounted but cant figure out the main pulley or the altenator mount. The mount doesnt match anything I can find in the manual. The pulley question is do I have to take the bolt and large washer off the part the main pulley attaches to? Any help would be great. photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpgphoto 3.jpg

Yes, you will need to remove the bolt holding the balancer, then install the pulley, then reinstall the center bolt. Anytime you begin to make changes and mix and match parts there will always be some issues to resolve. Sometimes it means being a little creative.

not trying to flame anyone but what did you do with the pully you took off the crank.you skills seem a bit vague for swapping parts.
the engine block you removed is the same block you installed, all the parts you took off from the old one bolt on to this new one.
most likely the alt bracket uses the 2 holes on the right head.
to expand of fishermark, remove the nose bolt, install pully and 3 mounting bolts, install nose bolt.

From the sound of the original post, when he bought the boat it didn't have an engine in it.

Yes - good thing to point out. ;) Without the three mounting bolts the pulley will spin freely and cause problems.

To the original poster - where did you get all of your misc pulleys and other parts? Were they all off of one engine? If not, you will surely run into problems getting everything lined up and working together. Easier to find everything from one engine - even if it is a truck. Then you can simply make sure the alternator and water pump are marine units.

took his post to mean he already pulled the engine. has it installed so it had to have the tail end components put on it.

When I bought the boat it had no engine just the externals(altenator, water pump, ps pump, pulleys, manifolds, risers, intake, carb). I am just wanting some help with locations of things. I'm not a pro but I do work on my own cars and such when I can. Sorry if I am to amateur for the bt doctor.

Sorry if you feel offended but if you dont explain your whole story I can only guess at your skills.
Part of repairing your boat is knowing your skill level in how to explain it to you. This way you understand the process and avoid costly mistakes.

Re: Altenator and pulley mounts

Ok got them mounted. The pulley was easy just remove the nose bolt and washer and bolt it up. The Altenator bracket ended up bolting to the bolts that mount part of the water pump up. Thanks for the help fisher mark. Now to the electrical:)

As far as bt doctor goes. I'm not offended, but maybe before you assume someone is worthless because they asked a question maybe ask what there skill level is. I have managed to build my own houses, opereate and repair a 350,000 dollar laser, work on my own cars and trucks when I have the right tools, build trailers, build food grade conveyors etc.....
