is there anything wrong with using a car alternater instead of a marine alternater?

Not sure, But I think marine alternators are simply sealed off better, perhaps insulated more too, to prevent any sparking. I think you should be fine if you use the blower like usual...<br />Once again, Im not 100% on this.<br />Craig

I wouldn't advise it. The marine alternator has flame arrestor baffles that reduce explosion potentials. Its not worth the risk if the blower quits..... :( <br /><br />There are conversion kits available that supply these baffles....

Don't Do It.... It'll turn a Fun Day, into a Tragedy....<br />Marine units are in fact Spark Sealed.....

Ditto... don't do it. If you're having troubles have your marine unit rebuilt, it's a lot less expensive that a new one.

Ditto again....and same goes for other components like...starter, voltage regulator, battery, etc.

Technically, you can use it, but like some of these other guys said...DON'T. It is also against Coast Guard regulations if your gas tank in the aft end of your boat and the fumes could be exposed to the alternator, carb, distributor... That kinda stuff.
