One of my alarms has never worked from day one. And its a pricey little guy this is on my 88 j150 I have buzzers from my job simple 12 2 wire buzzers. Any one ever wired in some thing else in place or even a light to go off?

I don't think any old buzzer will work mate as it would have to interact with electronic components in the oil alarm to get the beep sequences.
Temp switches are straight grounds but the oil sensors have to be different.

Being such an important thing I wouldn't even risk non genuine aftermarket ones.

Vro has been disabled so its would basically be for over heat. Being as that's just a ground couldn't I put the buzzer in the loop with the purple and tan wires?

For temp only it should work so long as the replacement buzzer didn't draw too much current for the temp switch to handle.
Guilt would make me pull out my label maker for the next guy....
"Caution- VRO disconnected & Modified Buzzer Fitted"
and stick it on the VRO.

All I can say is try it and see what happens. It just may work.

The generic 12V 2 wire buzzer will work fine. You just won't get the short test beep at key turn on, that's a function of the pricey OEM warning horn. I've used Radio Shack buzzers with no problems.
