alternator conversion

ok so i prepering to get ready for spring and i was wanting to up grade my 89 merc 470 with a alt and now that i have done alot of serching and homework i cant figure out 1 thing . now aside of the brackets to mount the alt can i use the grove on the balancer pully or do i need a bolt on ??? to run the alternator ... thanks and any help is better than no help

Just use the groove in (What would be) the balancer. It's actually closer to an outboard flywheel. The inside of it is lined with magnets. It's not a balancer in any sense of the word.

ok thats what i need thanks don ... u know i read a lot of post's on here and i realized one thing what the hell would peopple do with out the wounderfull and verry helpfull don.s thanks again :D:D:D:D
