Alternator guage readings

I`ve noticed that my Charge indicator on my dash seldom gets much above 12volts, especially at lower speeds on my VP 5.0 l. The origional alternator was re-built a couple years ago. My batteries are newer, less than two years old and I keep them fully charged before going out each week. Is this a normal reading or perhaps is my guage off or perhaps the alternator not working like it should be for being "re-built". Any suggestions without getting into too many diagnostic tests.

That doesn't sound right. The voltage should go up to about 14 when at mid to high rpm. "with out diagnostic tests".....hmmmm Nope no idea with testing with a meter.

Use a hand held meter and check the voltage at the battery terminals while engine is running. Measure while engine is running over 1000 RPM.
