Alternator Install

Running a 1960 Volvo 4 cyl I/O in my 19' Lund. Original equipment was a dc generator. Is it possible/easy to replace this with an alternator?

If so what is the best alternator for this application? Engine has a v-belt pulley and theres a braket on the motor already. Would probably have to weld a different bracket for the alternator to fit

I also don't know how to wire in an alternator...I asked my dad, and he said that there is some sort of regulator to prevent overcharging, but the research I've been doing indicates it is just wired directly to battery and grounded on motor

Looking at this alternator:
New 100 Amp Delco Universal Marine Alternator 56045, 59755, Fits many Models, Please See Below:Amazon:Automotive

I currently have a single battery, and usually only run a few gauges and vhf, with nav lights and deck lights occasionally..

Any help appreciated, thanks

Re: Alternator Install

You don't need more than a 60A alternator. You biggest challenge is going to be the mount. Wiring is a piece of cake. Regulators are built into 99% of alternators.
