Alternator Wiring?

Hi All,

I have a Volvo AQ225. Few weeks back I could not get the engine to turn over. Noticed my alternator pulley was not rotating. I took the belt off and could not even spin it by hand. Tried to loosen it but I decided since it was old any way would be better off just replacing it.

Found an alternator online (Amazon actually). I am inexperienced with alternators and am looking for some help with how to wire my new one. The back terminals do not really have a direct comparison to the old one; an easy one for one swap with the wires was as straight forwards as I thought it was going to be.

Would any of you know how to wire this alternator? I have attached a picture of the old one and how it was wired, as well as a picture of the new one. There are only three wires, Orange/Purple/Black. Thanks for any help you may be able to give.
Thanks,
Will

That doesn't appear to be a marine alternator. Mine has a black coating on it. What is the year of your motor?

It was sold as a marine alternator. And had aq225 listed as a one of the engines it would work for...
The engine is a 85 I believe

Orange, the charge wire, goes to the battery post on the starter's solenoid,...

Thanks for the reply Bendo.

The only markings by the terminals are a "W" and a "61". These are the marking by the lower two. The terminal with the "w" is significantly thinner and came with a rubber cap on it. Don't know if that means anything. Attached a pic.

the other terminals have no markings.. Strange I thought.

IMO the W post will not be used other then an additional ground. The 61 post would be where the purple wire goes. The other insulated post will be for the Orange wire. On the opposite side of the insulated post is where the main ground terminal would go

Note: don't pay any attention to the orange jumper in the pic/ The Pic below is just for reference
