I just want to clarify the earlier port I had on replacing a three wire alt to a one wire.

I have a orange to battery, a red-purple and a purple from the regulator and a black from the ground bolt.

To put the 1 wire in I should tape off the purple-red and purple wire. I will connect the orange to the hot on alternator. What do I do with the ground, tape it or do I have to connect it to the alternator? Thanks for the help.

Re: Alternator

There should be a ground screw on the new alternator. All else sounds right.

Re: Alternator

Fastimz, Why is it you want to change over? I sht one wire alternator more owerful or cheaper? I purchased a rebuilt three wire marine alternator at my local auto parts store for ~$140.
