Looking at buying a new 16' Alumacraft Fisherman 160 CS with a 25 HP Yamaha 4 stroke. Does anyone have any pros or cons on this boat? Mainly be fishing small to medium size lakes that can get rough at times. Just wondering how the boat might handle rough waters etc etc. Will be fly fishing mostly by myself or with one other person. Any information would be appreciated.

Alumacraft makes a good boat, so no cons in terms of quality. It will handle okay on rough water but you will definitely know you're out there. Welcome aboard and tight lines.

Good boats.

Until you get to a hull that weighs much more (1000#) you will feel it when it gets too rough.
So you choose between getting pounded or going slower.

I've been in some really rough stuff in a tiller version 16 classic LTD, with a 25 Mariner.
It handles it well.

It will be a stable boat in smaller lakes, but with a 25hp 4-stroke you won't be getting anywhere too quickly. As long as that's not a concern then go for it. I've got an Alumacraft Navigator and love it.

Re: Alumacraft Boat

My uncle has an older alumacraft with a 50hp 4 stroke yammie. When the lake is smooth the boat is fine. Any little ripple in the water or a small amount of wind and you'll get beat to death. There are times he won't even come out and meet us to fish cause he knows he'll take a pounding. His built in live well leaks onto the floor.

I have a small skeeter sd80, in addition to other boats, and I thought it road a little rough in choppy water, but after riding in his alumacraft the little skeeter feels like a Cadillac.

They are nice and light and easy to run trott lines and such in. He can launch it in hardly no water with the tilt trailer it came with.

My 2 cents :)
