Newbie to this website/forum. I recently bought an Alumacraft Flying D. Actually I was given to believe that it was a somewhat different Alumacraft 14' boat with runabout option. I found the accompanying placard on the portside inboard transom that clearly identifies this boat as a Flying D.20201210_170721.jpg I'm trying to find the serial number for the boat but haven't been able to yet. There is another placard on the opposite end of the transom that indicates maximum capacity and motor HP. But 20201210_170241.jpgit shows no serial number. I found a comment in another older thread on this site and other websites regarding serial number location. The transom seems to be where I should look but the comments were not consistent in where precisely to look. Neither placard carries a serial number. The only stamped marking I found was a small stamping on the starboard longitudinal stiffener for the "patented self-draining Aqueduct (R) transom". It was a small circular stamping that appeared to be

FC01 over 25. I don't know if that is a part ID or not. The portside stiffener (or brace/bracket) does not carry a similar marking. Part of the problem is that the previous owner had removed the foredeck (which I have) and painted the boat in camo for duck hunting. It's now too cold here in Minnesota to strip the paint. So, if anyone knows more specifically where to look for the serial number I'd be pleased to know that. I might be able to selectively strip a small portion of the transom area if I could be more certain where to find the serial number. Thanks! Great site!

The serial number should be stamped into the center transom support in the bottom of the boat.

E-mail that number to Alumacraft they will tell you what year it is. D's are great solid boats great hull, at low speeds you can lay that boat over on it's side, don't worry it will not tip.

Thanks Vintin & DeepCMark58A!

I got a good bright daylight spectrum LED light from the truck and could just see a couple numbers on the center transom support. I had to carefully scrape away some O.D. paint from the inboard vertical surface of the support (the previous owner thought the D would make a good duck boat and painted it over in camo style.)

When I got most of the paint scraped off, and I shined the light at just the right angle, there it was -- FDS 643.

I'm guessing the FD is for Flying D. Not sure what the S represents -- maybe production year or option (s). And the 643 would be the base hull number for production tracking.

All guesses on my part. I'll get an email off to Alumacraft and see what they can tell me.

It's an overcast mid-December day here in Minnesota. The ice isn't thick enough yet to make for safe ice fishing here in the Twin Cities. Can't do much on the boat. Can't go fishing.

Reminds me of a Mark Chesnutt song: "It's too hot to fish, and too hot for golf, and too cold at home." Course, to my mind, only George Jones could make you feel it.

Thanks again and take care!

Walked out on the lake and fished yesterday afternoon, I am a little further north and west, we have 4" of ice. Did you buy the boat off of Minneapolis Craigs list?

You can't go wrong with fishing, Jones and boats. If you are planing on a restoration post some before and after photos
