It is missing paint in spots but was white outside and a very pale green inside.

Can I just sand to skuff the surface?
..... get away with priming with zinc chromate only the bare areas? OR do the entire boat with it?
......now the big question...

Can I use automotive epoxy primer over it all and use automotive paint and hardener as a topcooat? This is a trailer only rig.

I have worked with spraying PPG paints in the past doing my trucks and my neighbor's equipment. I was even considering farm tractor paint with a hardener. Will it work?

Re: Aluminum boat paint question

It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to etch the bare aluminum before you put the chromate on.

Rustoleum is good stuff. They even have paint designed for under the water line now......but it is $$$$. FWIW, I just painted my 12ft with Rustoleum Aluminum paint.....
