Hey guys I was out today pulled up on a bay sandbar with my pontoon boat
and noticed that one of my toons (front) from rubbing up against the sand on a prior occasion removed my bottom paint down to the aluminum in a small area ... I'm taking boat out of water this week for service and was looking for input on the correct way to
touch it up. I have a can of bottom paint for aluminum boats and was thinking of rinsing the area , lightly sanding, and then putting two coats of bottom paint on... Wasn't sure if i should do a primer as well or if it isn't necessary?? Thanks for assistance

You should use the etching primer for aluminum first.

Re: Aluminum bottom paint touch up

Awesome info, thanks. One more question I did pick up some primer and am going to repair front toons.. The marina that bottom painted didn't do such s great job . I was thinking of redoing the very front of my toons as I am pulled up on sandbars often and don't want to repair this again in a few weeks. Can I
primer over the original bottom paint in the front after I lightly sand and then add couple fresh coats of bottom paint???? thanks again

Scuff it with some 60 grit and then wash it down with Acetone, Prime it and Paint it.
