1930 Johnson restoration. Have painted iron cylinder head black. The rest is aluminum castings. I have grit blasted , acid etched and alodyned
the aluminum crankcase. would it be considered more correct to leave the aluminum castings bare looking or to paint them ???

Ooops. I "searched" it and learned more than I needed.

As a general rule the folks around here don't delve in to the "antique" side of things that much. Much more into the "vintage" to modern day stuff. Have you perused the Antique Outboard motor club website? http://aomci.org Maybe since you're into the really old stuff it would make sense to join, and then you could post the question on their forum.

Having said that I seem to recall someone commenting on all the polishing people like to do on those old motors. Saying in actuality they were originally all just rough raw castings left bare.

Good luck with it! Sounds like a fun project!
