Aluminum confusion

Hi all,
I am new here. We just bought a 1989 Crestliner Ski N Fish boat. One side of it looks like it has been rubbing up against a dock for some time. Paint is scuffed and marked.

I want to repaint it. I have done a search on here for repainting. But still confused about the primer part.

I am not taking it down to the aluminum. I just want to paint over what is there already. I might change the color but I am not sure yet. I know to clean it, wet sand with fine grit 220? Wipe clean with 50:50 viniger.

My question/confusion is over the primer part. Do I need to reprime it with the ectching primer at this point or can I just paint over the sanded/washed paint?

I plan on using the Rustoleum paint with the roll and tip method.

Thanks in advance!
BG

PS I saw all the restoration threads and there are some great boats out there! Looking forward to starting my own.

Re: Aluminum confusion

Paint over the existing coating, only prime the bare aluminum.
