Aluminum Gas Tank Leak, Floor removal tips?

Hello Folks, We have a 1992 Chaparral 198F DC Bowrider. The 47 Gallon stock aluminum tank has sprung a leak and we had Gas in the bilge. After emptying the tank and pressure testing (In The Boat) we confirmed the tank is the problem. It was mentioned to me that I could remove the tank and have it welded, Not sure if after all the work of removing the tank, skimping on a patch job would be the way to go. If anyone has tips on the job itself, aluminum vs. plastic, patch job vs. new, custom tank vs. stock or any other things I should consider before taking a "Saw To Me Boat"... Thanks everyone.

I have tig'ed aluminum tanks before. I will not post here how I do it, but depending on the leak and repair needed, a patch plate welded over a welded repaired hole would make it stronger and would fix it.
