Day one of doing actual work to this neglected 58 year old, all aluminum Mackenzie Cherokee?
Even better the model name is “Playboy”

I've never heard of the brand either , I’ve only had starcrafts before, regardless $500 later with a ‘63 Johnson 40hp, I picked it up in the city. Sitting in the back of a lot, of a 1950’s home , nice people ...keys and bill of sale 👍🏼

Finally today, pulled all the wood, all the styrofoam, all the wiring, transom gutted on day one. Get it done. Shop vac and clean interior next

Ready for new transom and sand the entire outside.

going for that Dolorean scotch brite finish

Nice boat. I can relate to the model name. I am working on a Checkmate Playmate. This also brings back lots of interesting fodder and opportunities on my internet searches and classifieds.

the only flaw I see. scotchbriting the aluminum will promote oxidation. it wont stay that way for long. thats why most aluminum boats are painted.

nice looking boat.

you most likely never heard of the brand because about 95% or more of boat builders over the last 100 years were low volume or one-off builders that came and went, many only making a few hulls.

the boat has typical lines of any 50/60/70 aluminum closed-bow runabout that was popular

100% I’m going to have to find a clear coat that likes bare aluminum, unfortunate but your right. It will oxidize eventually. Cheers

Um, that appears to be plywood w a hint of green. Its not pressure treated plywood is it?

Resin? There is no generic 'resin', polyurethane/spar varnish aren't really resin, but its what some use, esp in aluminum boats and Polyester, Vinylester or epoxy.

Which do you plan to use?

No worries bud,

it’s not pressure treated, it’s spruce ply with waterproof glue hence the exterior rating, yes it’s cheaper, but it’s 3/4” and with Resin, (sorry epoxy resin) it solid as a rock.

and I used USComposites epoxy resin, 3 coats

I don’t need a boat to outlive me
And budget is important in my situation
I used cheap carpet (again budget) so if they last the same amount of years the floor and the carpet...., I’m good with that.

Cheers
Litre more progress
