Thanks for the schooling!!! I always look forward to your responses on prop questions and I've learned quite a bit from your posts over the last year or so. This post should be made a sticky for everyone to reference back to...

Re: Aluminum Versus Stainless Props

Just a note of personal experience.

I had a 24P XL SS Ballistic on my boat and for grins one day I put on a Turning Point Hustler 23P Alum. That particular Al prop had most of the refinements that HP SS props have with one distinct exception: blade thickness.

I know the props weren't perfectly matched in all aspects but what happened that I couldn't believe was the fact that the Al prop cost me 600 rpm's and it was 1" less in pitch.

I guess most of that loss was due to blade thickness. Amazing.

Mark, that is why I don't recommend Turning Point aluminum props. That is not the first or even third time I have heard that same comment on here before.
I don't know what causes this, but I know it shouldn't be happening. LOL

I do not know anything about those props but maybe they are like some of the tools made in china. I bought a set of open end and box end wrenches from harbour.F. the one wrench with 1" open end is 1" the box end 1" is 15/16so maybe there pitch is not true......

I really believe it has more to do with blade thickness as others have mentioned. By design, alum has to have more thickness. Part of the advertising for Ballistic SS props is their deliberately thin leading edge....kinda like cutting the water with a butcher knife or a baseball bat. Which takes more effort?

My 2c,
