Re: Aluminum vs Fiberglass - Picking a new boat

I just sold my 10yr old 16' Lowe aluminum bass mod-V rig. Never had a leakage problem, minimal maintenance and very lightweight. The decks got hot, but a some light color textured paint helped, or just wear some shoes  .

I had it out in rough water, it did the job but wasn't fun and you get wet. But being able to drag it over rocks, stumps and anything else without worrying about the hull is a great feature for a fishing boat.

I had a Grumman for about 15+ years and it only leaked once. I fixed it and she never leaked again. I used it every year many many times each year, took it through some carzy stuff, it never let me down, I miss that boat. So I bought another aluminum boat. They're great boats for lakes rivers and areas where you don't want to scratch the heck outta a nice shiny sparkling fiberglass beauty.

performance wise, Fiberglass is the way to go..

i hate riding in aluminum boats going 45mph fealing and hearing the jack hammer affect..

also alot of lower quality Aluminum boats are "Soakercrafts"

I would never buy any aluminum boat besides crestliner / lund / upper-class trackers (tundras, targas)

ive seen fishers with hulls nearly ripped in half.

I do fish some hard waters, im sure inland lakes dont care.. but for Lake Michigan and Winnibago, you need a fiberglass boat to compete with the big boys..

just an opinion, no offence to any other boat owners.

Buy the ranger, if you can afford it, you wont regret it..

warrior / yar-crafts are also very good boats..

http://www.hawgeyes.net
