I currently am running a 3 blade 15X17 aluminum prop on an Evinrude 150.
If I switch to a stainless prop should I keep the same dia. and pitch ?? Is there a noticable difference between stainless and aluminum props of the same dia. and pitch ??

Props are weird, and that is why there is no definative guide to them. You try 5 props at 15X17, and have them all perform differently. If you are running at the upper end of the rpm range, I would start with the same size and pitch with a stainless one. It may perform differently, but usually better. All else held constant, (size, pitch, hull weight, etc.) a stainless is usually a little faster b/c it is more ridged, but not usually more than 2 mph. What type of rpm's are you running? Good Luck.

Assuming (I know) your rpm's are somewhat correct now, stay with the same pitch. The greatest advantage is you will be able to raise the motor (increase x dimention height). SS props like Stiletto have more lift and cup area. The bottom line is that you will increase overall performance from holeshot to top end.

Good luck!

Re: Aluminum Vs Stainless Prop

Thanks for the info guys !! The current aluminum prop seems to work pretty well, it does have a few minor nicks ,so I was thinking of getting a replacement. I think I will try a stainless. FYI...The motor is a 1992 Evinrude 150. It is on a 19' crestliner (boat and motor weight approx. 2200 lbs). At WOT the RPM's max out at about 5400 with a top speed of 45 MPH (GPS). Should I stick with buying a stiletto or are there other recommended brands ??

OMCs Raker is a good prop as is a Turbo. Al high rake SS props run different See if you can try befoe you buy. The Merc LazerII can be gotten with an OMC hub and they run good.
corm
