Ok last year had a bad season due to bad gas and found this out by running it on an outboard tank. Ok everything’s fine boat runs perfect on the outboard tank; this spring I get the old gas pumped out & full with 94 octane Sunoco E0 fuel…..So this spring before I launch it I change the plugs and plug wires, the wires were close to 20 years old. Launch boat and it starts fine but doesn’t turn up rpm like it did before when I ran it on the outboard tank. What I didn’t notice right away…the coil lead was a loose fit in the coil snout but it was masked by the tight fit of the boot. And coils if you compare have slightly different diameter snouts. So the cure? Tweak the terminals so they fit tightly in the snout and use a better fitting boot so it doesn’t try to push the lead up and out of the snout.
Always check the last thing you touched….
And just because it’s new doesn’t mean it’s good!
