I have a 1988 350 mercruiser that I had longblock replaced, had it out this weekend and it ran great. I know temp guages are inaccurate, but undreway it stayed right at 160, when I slowed to approach a dock, i was idling and noticed guage rise to appx 175-180 stayed there and then slowly lowered to just over 160, normal? or am I paranoid after shelling out all that dough?

I was wondering the same thing. As for being paranoid- when it comes to a boat I don't think there is any such thing! I pay attention for every little noise, gage movement, smell, or vibration that is out of the norm. I depend on my boat to play 5-6 miles off shore in the great lakes, and have no interest in having a failure of any kind leaving me disabled out there. You get out of your boat what you put into it, to me that is not paranoid but smart!

Impeller and pump housing were replaced at same time, at time of engine job.

you could verify with a temp gun at the sender what the actual temp is

its possible there is blockage somewhere in the seawater supply hose, or you picked up a plastic bag/weeds that covered the pick-ups then dropped off after idling a bit

paranoid. My boat did the same thing all 8 years and 3 impellers while I owned it.

My RWC boat's temp creeps up a little for a min after I come down off cruising speed....the water flow is abrubtly reduced while engine contains a lot of built-up heat. At least that's my theory.
