am i counter rotating?

i have a early 80s 115 merc. when i put the control in forward the linkage on the powerhead moves forward towards the boat,BUT the right hand prop on there pulls the boat backwords. could tyhis be a counter rotating unit that some one slapped a standard rotation prop on? thanks in advance for any help james should i just put on a left hand prop and run it that way or leave it alone and run in reverse?

Hello there.
Has anyone changed the water pump on that recently, or disconnected the throttle linkages?
Post your serial # as well, that will help.

My first thought after seeing your title was, "I don't know, are you dizzy or undizzy?"

leave it alone and run in reverse?

Dizzy or not that would be really unsafe . . .

Does the control also shift the gearcase into Neutral AND Both gears?

If so, then you may indeed have a counter rotating lower and will need the correct prop.

If the shift cam was accidentally indexed incorrectly you would not have Neutral
AND Both gears.

i have neutral and both forward and reverse! it just spins the opposite way it should. i just got the boat i dont know what was done the seriel # is A179969 it is a strt 6 with 6 coils on it thanks james

James, I don't see any inline six models with counter rotating lower units, at the Maxrules site. Some of the V6s had Counter rotating Lowers.

Probably the shift rods are incorrectly alined. Remove the lower unit. See what gear it is in. if forward, set control to forward, and then move to neutral and note which way shift shaft turns. now turn lower unit shift shaft the same way (gently use a wrench) until it clicks into neutral. Now reinstall the gearcase.
