I own a 2007 115hp Mercury Optimax 2 stroke engine that runs fine. My only complaint is, we like to cruise on our lake and the engine is very noisy. Do you think I am nuts to invest 10 grand in a new Suzuki, 115hp, 4 stroke. Your comments please....and be nice.

Agree bad idea for another reason, the increased weight of the 4 stroke will slow you down. The added weight on the stern can also cause water to come in during a wave in because it sits lower

Example of weight and speed
Had a 205hp 4 dtroke seadoo and a 155hp 2 stroke seadoo, they had basically the same top speed

Well I would seriously think of getting rid of that vintage OPTIMAX.------I do not believe that flavour of 2 stroke is well supported by factory.----You might get the best value on resale / trade in now.-----Don't be shocked at what a dealer might allow on a trade !

Dealers are telling me the new 4 stroke has closed the weight gap considerably....and this is a pontoon, so the wave thing probably won't be a problem...correct?

Hope you are right on the trade value...unless you mean shocked by how low value it is....just trying to determine if this "new buy" is even sensible.

Buy 2 cans of CRC Engine Tune-Up decarbonizer, follow can instructions, once heavy application has ended, go for a wot run as if stealing the combo for say 15 minutes, motor shold rev much smoother and less noisy than before...

Happy Boating

If you plan on keeping the boat for an extended period of time it might be worth the investment, it certainly would be more efficient, not smell as bad and you would be able to take in a normal voice

A less costly idea would be to purchase a few headphones that allow you to talk between others in a normal conversation. And the noise cancelling would be a bonus too... Think motorcycle type setups...

Pontoon, right? Haven't I seen a sort of "Dodger" in front of the motor on those 'toons? A dodger, if built correctly will lessen the noise considerably.

Agree...but most people think I am nuts for spending that kind of money. But then again, the ol Mercury has a 450hrs on it.
