there was a lip from the improper installation Of the old bearing. And
The old bearing was supposably not easy to remove. I supplied the bearing,
Oil seal, carb kit, impellor, anb lower unit gaskets. Does 775 sound high??
I took a new job that has me traveling full time so I couldn't do the job or b

Other weekend and I am not in a hurry 4 it but it took 7 weeks 2 finish.

Supplying your own parts to a repair shop is like taking your own food to a restaurant. FWIW that still sounds cheep.

It is a 89 4.3 omc cobra vip vision and the lower unit was not
On the boat. I removed it when winterizing because I knew it needed
The bearing replaced. I was originally quoted around 300.

Re: Am I getting hosed???

It is not a repair shop, but a single guy that does mobile repair. He allowed me to get the parts from ebay. I asked him lots of questions before letting him work on it and he sounded. Like he knew what he was talking about. About the restaraunt jab, if it makes the bottom line lower.... And he doesn't have to chase them down, what's the down side? Anyways, good to hear it sounds cheap, he didn't want 2 give the price cause he was over double the orig quote. Looks like I found a mechanic. Thanks for the info

Labor rates for shops here are around 90 dollars an hour. I have talked to some guys running vans around who quote 50. I think you got a good deal but would ask for a written quote in the future to avoid any surprise charges.

"Hosed", like beauty, is in the eye of the .......

Did you have time and ability to do it yourself? Did you shop around for prices/quality?

It's like the man who had heart surgery and received a $30,000 bill from the surgeon. He didn't like the amount and asked for an itemized bill.

He got one:

Suture: $25.00
Needles: $50.00
Gloves: $25.00
Gown: $25.00
For knowing how: $29,900
