It's gotta be setup right before he can learn how to drive it. It ain't too much motor, but he needs to realize there is a learning curve. ...and it's a steep one if you step off.

Im surprised that SUZUKI40 jumped on (the go as fast as you can) right from the start! Thats what worrys me about him!<br />I love tickling boats untill I can get the most out of them, but Ive always done it a little at a time and only one thing at a time! I had a 15' Ranger Bass boat one time with an 85 HP Evenrude! I also had a freind that had the exact same boat and motor! When I first got mine they would run neck and neck about 45 MPH, When I got done tickling mine it would do 50MPH! I never did tell him what I did! (Some freind hugh) It just took raising the motor up 1" and working with the prop a little! Also changing the oils to Amsoil synthetic, LU and 2 cycle oil! Just that was worth about 3 MPH! He was scared of the synthetics and wouldnt change!<br />Now I have an 18' boat with a 150 Merc, I can trim it all the way up and not show any sign of blowout so I am going to raise the engine some, Im looking for a used Jackplate but havnt found one yet! I like my boats to be able to start blowing out a little at full trim so I can trim down some so I know I am on the edge, also, I sounds sooo cool when you are just on the edge!<br /><br />Hasbeen

Well, I'm sitting in a call-center type office that easily holds 300 employees...I'm working the graveyard shift and there's one other person here. It was around 4am, you could hear a pin drop, then I read:<br />"Am I missing something?"<br />Well, it isn't balls.<br /><br />My co-worked was close to calling me an ambulance. That was an hour ago...I'm still giggling.<br /><br />I saw the big horsepower, and the enthusiasm..and kinda saw it coming. <br />I liked the way it went from a couple easy passes to BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!! hehe<br />It's true, though....most would have done the same thing. It's nice to see all the 'posters in the know' that cautioned in advance.<br /><br />I love this forum. As a new boater, it's nice to have people willing to lend a hand when I'm stuck.<br /><br />And congrats on coming back alive. <br />I do ask myself..80mph...WHY??<br />But, if I had your rig rather than mine, I'd likely be saying WHY NOT??<br /><br />That reminds me, I have to go post my first season of boating in the 'stupid human trick' section.

JSGAuto -- I have been involved with the OPC, Offshore and Outboard Drag classes. Tons of fun if ya block out the mishaps.<br /><br />A friend of mine does some inboard stuff, SS and some other classes. Mike Allen -- know him?

This thread ended up being a very good read. I am awaiting the delivery of my first boat ('94 Cajun w/ 150xp Evinrude) and I found the set up information very intersting. Is there a good online guide for learning how to PROPPERLY "drive" a boat?<br /><br />I have found tons of great advice on safety equipment, maintenance, and other stuff, but nothing on the fundamentals of pilioting a bass/ski boat.

Yes, I was just thinking about this thread the other day, I think he was just one of those come and get information and leave guys.<br /><br />As to your question, Its mostly just taking it easy and getting used to it little by little. My last three boats were 15' ers with an 85 on two and a 75 on the other. This boat although only about 10-15 MPH faster than the others, took a bit to get used to. Amazing how much just 15 MPH is on the water.

This subject has also told me my 2002 Chapp 186 with a 5.0L 220 hp with maximum speed and slime on the bottom is ready to chine walk. It starts doing a slow Cobra dance at 56 mph.------ A little left, right, drop the bow, raise the bow, about 1 to 2 seconds between each change. I feel like I should not push it 1 bit harder or it will do somethine I can't recover from. Am I another lucky one also? I now leave it trimed to 50 mph. Acceleration of 2 to 3 seconds on plane is great.--------------------------------- Oh, I almost forgot. Clean bottom and NO hint of the Cobra Dance. Still, flipping the keys to anyone except my Son in Law is a no, no.

What I do remember of suzuki40 is the phrase "cant wait to do it again, cant wait to do it again, cant wait to do it again...... "<br />Can one person act so inane after being warned so many times.<br />My condolences to his wife, whether we lost him to the water or to stupidity.

This thread showed up the other day on the Texas Fishing Forum and we are still laughing. Although<br />what this guy was doing was completely crazy there is a lot comic value to his post too bad<br />we will never know the rest of the story. Hopefully he gained some wisdom from the experience<br />and if not maybe somebody else will learn something from it I know I sure did.<br />Thanks for allowing us to drop in on your forum this looks to be very well ran and very informative.
