Will a 17 pitch stiletto prop give me the same bow lift as my 21P stiletto prop? THANKS

Re: Am I over propped??

one would think so.... if it is the same model of prop it SHOULD perform the same except be the correct pitch for your motor.... Understand though that there is more than one model of stiletto prop ... make sure you are looking at the right one

Re: Am I over propped??

If your boat is reaching the top of its WOT RPMs with the 17 and plowing one would think that the proper prop in 17P would allow it over rev due to the hull running more efficiently with the good bow lift. Kinda like running trimmed out verses completely tucked. How fast does your boat go with the 17P? What kind of speed did you get with the 21P?

im not sure on the speed becuase my speedo is not working. I was just thinking the samething about over reving with the 17p stiletto. I cant make up my mind if I should go with the 17p stiletto or the 19p. I called dansdicount props and talked to them about it they said a 17p stiletto will over rev the motor but my merc mechanic said 19p would only give me about 5100 rpm @WOT. My motor was designed from the factory to run at 5500-5600 rpms at WOT. With the 21p stiletto im only running 48-4900 rpm @WOT. So im confused lol!! merc mechanic is saying I need to run at 5500 max and 5100 will be lugging the motor. My stock 17p got me at 5500 @ WOT on a calm lake but 90% of the time im in the tampa bay where thers a lite chop. The motor does seem to have a lot less strain with the 17p over the 21p

Re: Am I over propped??

Also Im having a problem running at 180 degrees @ WOT with the 21p with the 17p I was at about 170ish. ALL the cooling components have been replaced and there is NOT any clogs so im thinking its because of the 21p prop and 88-90 degree water temps

Re: Am I over propped??

as I said you are lugging the engine DO NOT continue to use the 21" prop

ALSO If you continue to brag about warm water while most of us are dry docked for the winter you MAY be keelhauled LOL

Re: Am I over propped??

I think the 19 would be the ticket but I would suggest getting it from somewhere that will let you swap it out if it's to much pitch. I would recommend propgods.com. I think they charge something like $30 to swap one out.

I'm guessing you're looking Advantage II?

Yeah Ken there is great to deal with. If you don't see the prop on his site just email or call him.

Something else that maybe useful is that you mentioned moving playing with the motor height with the 17" but not the 21". The Advantage II is 14.25" in diameter so it should be able to run at higher motor heights than the 17". If you can raise the motor one hole you could possibly pick up even more RPMs and speed as long as water pressure holds.

Re: Am I over propped??

it's 17" PITCH not diameter

btw I would go w the 17 .. all of your numbers look like it would be best... you want to prop so that you are at the top of your rpm range when lightly loaded so you are still within that range when heavily loaded

I think you will still be lugging a little with the 19

Re: Am I over propped??

I just talked to propgods and he recommended the 19 pitch if Im using the stiletto because the 17P stiletto will come close to over revving. 19P to play it save. 19p should put me at or around 5300 rpms @ WOT and i found out i was wrong about my WOT rpms my seloc manual says the motor should be between 5000-5500 rpms at WOT. So I should be good to go with the 19p. I really appreciate your ALL of your help!!

Re: Am I over propped??

I shoulda caught 5500-5600 being WAY too narrow of a range.........

so yeah the 19 should work good UNLESS you plan to operate really heavily loaded... such as a full boat of biggins (lol) and several full coolers. As long as you are pretty much always fairly lightly loaded you'd be GTG...... and of course if you do get it and it's a bit steep you can always swap it out.

ENJOY

Re: Am I over propped??

The recommended prop for your application would be the 17 pitch Mercury Tempest Plus. :)

Re: Am I over propped??

The Tempest Plus would run great on that hull. Tons of bow lift.

The tempest was the other prop that I wanted but its to much money for me. I only paid $259 for the stiletto with the hub kit included plus free shipping and wasnt charged sales tax! THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!
