I leave my battery on, so I can adjust the drive to put it's bracket on. I also turn my radio's squelch so you can hear static, it reminds me to out my antenna down.

I too always have my radio on and monitoring 16, you never know when you can lend a hand or save a life!

I always thought that if you had a radio on the boat you had to have it on and monitoring 16 while you were out.

I understand IF you have it on, THEN you must monitor 16. I leave ours on to hear weather alerts too, as storms pop up on the Chesapeake with little warning.
