AMF Crestliner welded aluminum 14 . Good bad or just ugly ?

Is anyone familiar with these AMF Crestliner boats ? Are they sives ? I believe it's from the late 70s

Welcome to iboats Captain.

Crestliner is a very good brand, the AMF part most people could do without, they went on a buying spree back in the 70 and tried to get into almost every market, they had everything from balls and sporting goods to Harley Davidson and ran most of them into the ground, make it cheap and sell alot of them was apparently thier motto.

As to the boat it is 40 years old and still in what looks like pretty amazing condition so I wouldn't have any problem getting that, just to survive for that long it has to be very well built.

I recall what AMF did to Harley during that time frame but this hull seems to be a bit thicker then what you see on most boats now . It is welded quite nicely so i guess i will take a chance buying it with out testing it since it's colder then a hookers heart here .

Nice looking boat and it is welded? Take a water hose and fill it to the water line to check for leaks.

Looks like a solid little boat and that it was fairly well taken care of. Agreed, pour some water in it and watch for leaks.

I drove 200 miles to buy the boat and i'm glad i did . It was bought new by a farmer near Chatam Ontario who's tractor turned over in a ditch and drowned him 17 years a go and the boat has set in a barn ever since . The boat is all welded except for the seats and runners on the bottom which are riveted . (struck me as strange) Also came with awsome farmer built boat trailer all for $ 400 .

I think crestliner is a nice boat. Looks like you got a nice rig and a great deal too. Forum member jasper has one and seems to really like it. Maybe look him up on here for more opinions.

What about the motor?

Aparentley the farmers widow let her nephew take the boat boat out for the first time in 17 yrs this summer . The nephew was not the sharpest tool in the shed and simply added premix to the little Merc that had set for almost two decades and promptly blew it to $%#* in the first 5 minutes out on the lake . The nephew brought it back to the farm and they stuck a for sale sign on it and thats when i got it . It's too bad because i think it was a clean little motor that could have been serviced and saved if not for the nitwit nephew.

That motor still may be salvageable....... look in our motor section and you will see many motors "cooked" and brought back to life with some maintenance and care. Tell them you want it for parts.
