Does anyone know where I can find a repair manual for a AML35D outboard? These outboards I believe were made for the military.

Mine took a 1992 and a 1995 30hp manual to figure out some of it. There are modifications made to the stock motor for submerging them(dewatering device). I eneded up rebuilding mine to "de-militarize" it. AML35D shows up as a 1995 35hp. The pistons have flats milled into them and the motor...I think personally...was made to run very rich which makes gas mileage very poor and smoke..very much.

Hey! Thanks for the info, now I have somewhere to start. Who is the manufactuer of the motor? I am thinking Evinrude! I bought this motor from a friend and it's already been "de militarized" as said. So, the excess smoke is normal for this outboard, and how bad is bad on the fuel consuption.

It's a Johnson. All I know about the gas mileage was ..it was a hog. I am looking for a shortshaft mid section for mine now and I hope it doesn't have those holes that spew exaust out on the transom.

So that's where the smoke is coming from. Is that normal for this type of engine? What is the reason for the modification to the piston?

It was for the dewatering ability I guess. They would pop them up off submarines, pull the dewatering knob, pull about ten times then start the motor and go. I think they knocked out the molded in circles out of the front of the exaust/mid section to help drain it quickly and relieve some compression.Before I rebuilt it, I covered the holes and ran it for a bit and it wouldn't run right. Mine blows exaust all over the steering tube. I haven't checked but I suspect the carb has big jets in it...waiting for a good breakin period before I rebuild the carb again and check jet size.With 25:1 mix in it, it really chokes me.

Thanks for the replies, this helps me alot. Sorry to be a pain, but I have another question. What gas/oil ratio is recommended for this motor? Right now I am using a 50:1 mixture.

Hey all. I am new here. I was drawn to the board as it is one of a very few that address the AML35D.

I bought mine already completely rebuilt and painted for $1,300. I love the motor as I get many head turns when it is on my black bombard commando C5 wondering WTF is that?

I brought mine out for the first time this summer and gave her a few pulls to start. 2 pulls and bam good to go. Decided to stop and restart and wouldn't you know the damn recoil spring for the cord snapped.

Here I sit trying to find a part number for a replacement spring. For now I have removed the rope starting gadget and am doing the old school one pull at a time way.

Does anyone have good info on part numbers? Also need the knob for the damn de-watering valve. It fell off on a road trip.
