Hello,
Does anyone know what the amps pull during a cold start? I am upgrading my main power wire to 4 gauge. I also like to put in an in-line fuse. I just don't know what size. I need to account for the trim power used too. But I guess no one would trimming while starting. Thanksd for any info.

Re: Amperage

Starters can draw up to 300 amps for a V-8 motor. It really isn't practical to fuse that line going to the starter.

Number 4 wire is acceptable for the small starters used on the force engines. They do not draw anything like the V-8's.

Even with number 4 wire, fusing is problematic. You may be able to pick up a fuseable link but it isn't really practical.

Ok, since it is not practical and I could have problems with it, I guess I'll nix the whole idea. Thanks for the advise, you saved me alot of time and headaches.
