Re: Amplifier Conversion SUCCESS

In your extensive "education", did you ever notice that battery-points ignitions were used for half a century in cars? By the way, OMC used them right up until they rolled out the batteryCD ignitions.

Apply 12+ from the battery to one side of a ballast resistor. From the other side of the resistor, run to the 'plus' terminal on a coil. Disconnect the points lead from the amplifier, and connect it to the other terminal on the coil. Also, connect a condensor from the other terminal on the coil to ground. Leave the charging system just the way it is.

Be prepared to clean & regap your points periodically (100-200 hours), and to have plug fouling problems when slow trolling unless your idle mixture & thermostat are adjusted well.
Just like the old days...

lol, sounds like ledgefinder is an EE too, or just a Degree in Common Sense ... I guess we can save ten bucks now!

On a more serious (albeit "pointless")note, well, not serious, but slightly perplexing ... my 83 Impala and a 100 MILLION other cars have HEI ignitions run for god knows how many billions and BILLIONS of hours flawlessly, many right by the shore and exposed to salt air and harsh envrionment ... and for 134 thousand miles, shes reliably blown a 50,000 plus volt spark across those plugs, why are outboards so problematic? yeah yeah, salt air, but fresh water boats have problems too, is it a matter of the auto industry kicking it up to a higher level, or outboards trying to put too much into too small a package?
