I use it. Much cleaner than petroleum oils.

Dave

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

Just switched to AMSOIL. Much less smoke/smell. Motor seemed to run smoother as well.

I have been using AMSOIL Synthetic in my 1987 225hp evinrude for 2years without any problems, runs smoother especially at idle.

Yeah, lots of people use it with good results. I'd use it too if I wasn't so damn cheap. :D Don't use it at 100:1 though...

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

Its a great product, I have been using it off and on for about 25 years. I use the HP Injector oil in my Merc 150, but if you premix, you can use the HP Injector at 50:1, or the Saber at 100:1.

If you run your engine at WOT nearly all the time, but who does this, I would mix it at 80:1. I know it sounds scary, but it is formulated to run that way. Would I use another oil at 100:1 Absolutly not, not even the HP Injector oil, but the Saber is made to run at 100:1.

LubeDude,
kpl is a new member. I am also new, but not as new as they. I have already picked-up on the fact that you're an Amsoil rep. I don't want to be mean, but I think it would be really keen if you shared that info with new members at the same time your shared your oil experiences with Amsoil.

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

What difference does lubedude being an amsoil rep make? He's not selling it to the people on this forum, he is only relaying his experince with this high quality synthetic oil. If anything him being a rep makes him more qualified to speak on this subject than those of us that have never used it.

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

Being an Amsoil dealer means nothing. Any idiot can be one (no offense LD) and the majority of them are only "dealers" because they use alot of it themselves...

bluewater19,
In retrospect, you are correct and I apologize to LubeDude for my hasty remarks. LubeDude is invaluable on this forum and continually offers wisdom and experience to those of us less knowledgeable. He has offered wisdom and good advice to me in the past. In the future I will reconsider any posts that I author.

Obviously if someone sells a product, they would be bias toward that product. Otherwise they'd be selling a different product.

LubeDude, it's bad advice to suggest running a 2-stroke outboard at 80:1.

Many people run their outboards at WOT nearly all the time. I do. They are designed to do that....hours and hours on end.

I have some smaller outboards that require a 100:1 mixture, and they have lasted for years with regular OEM oil.

There are lots of 2-stroke synthetic oils. Amsoil is only one of them.

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

Lubedude sells Amsoil because he likes the stuff, not the other way around. It's not like this is his livelyhood, most of his sales are to himself. Also, 80:1 is plenty of oil with Amsoil. No, I wouldn't personally run it that way, but many others have with good results.

i too, in the past, have trashed lube dude. now i am educated and enlightened by the mans sence of intelligence(sp)

i dont use amsoil, not cause its no god, but cause i cant afford it.

i used penzoil 100% synthetic in my motors till my gallon jug ran dry.

now i bought another jusg and it was the 6 dollar stuff from wally world. i have noticed a BIG difference after switching back to regular oils. doesnt sound as smooth and gets worse mileage( see earlier posts)

as ZMOZ once said, "the only drawback synthetic oils have is they are peicey, otherwise i'd use em all the time"

i agree 100%

m ikey

ps. if i DO win the lotto and go back to synthetics, i WILL call lubedude!!!!

Thanks all for your support.

Now as to forktail, get a life!!

You are so anti LubeDude, Its getting really old.

First, Im not bias, I have continually recomended many other oils besides Amsoil.

Its not bad advice to recomend running an oil manufactured for 100:1 to be run at 80:1.

Of coarse there are outboards that the manufacture recomends 100:1, but we are not talking about those.

And this was a question specifically about Amsoil.

You are getting to be a real pain in the Ars!!!

Anyone else feel as I do???????

LD IS the man best suited to answer questions on this site about "Amsoil", so I see no "Bias" here...Lighten up, forktail, we respect you and your additions about the Yamahas and their dependability, and we take your posting about that seriously...we don't say your biased...we listen, whether you think so or not.

Mikie...you don't need to run snake oil thru a Chrysler outboard motor to make 'em run longer...there are plenty of 30+ year olds in that brand around today...don't try to get cute, it don't work...just a thought :)

Re: amsoil synthetic oil

Wow, this one deserves a web board all on its own!

JB, why don't you create a new category and post all this there? (Ha)

Folks, there are a lot of "experts" out there on every conceivable topic. LD is one. If he uses Amsoil in his engines - GREAT! Would I use anything outside of that recommended by the manufacturer of the engine? Hell no!

In almost 50 years of boating with mostly outboards I've never (read NEVER) had an oil or oil mix related engine failure. Why would I want to change oil types? (OK, here come the tree huggers) Want more HP? Try mixing bean oil with nitromethane but the HP increase won't come from the oil.
