Howdy folks, I just took off the lower unit for my 1958 Evinrude fastwin 18 to change the impeller.

What i found was the impeller that was last put on about 15 years ago. The engine was never run, and i cannot find any cracks to indicate bad rubber. its still juicy, seems like. very felxible, and its just wrinkled from being in the pump housing for so long. after flexing it a while, the arms straightened back out.

My question is should i just leave it in, or replace it with my new one, and use that one as a spare?

Fergulus

Replace it as long as you've gone this far. The old impeller will take a "Set" and not pump properly. A new one is cheap insurance!

Dito, replace it! It's a long swim back to the dock!
Richard
