...well, just a few minutes until the Olympics main ceremony kicks off.
In following up on the other thread about what to look forward to I thought...hmm, as a Canadian...I'm a little more bent to the winter Olympics.
That said, the summer Olympics has that highly awaited 100m sprint, of course there will be Michael Phelps in the pool and I guess for a lot of Canadians...the rowing stuff is kind of exciting. A few other events might be the cycling and I am disappointed they took out the calf roping this year.;):D
Beyond that I have to dig a little deeper and see whats on the schedule to get a little more 'amped' up for it.
One thing I do like is the spotlight the Olympics puts on the host country and city. There will probably be a lot of great coverage of London and its current cultures and stuff let alone the whole GB experience which should be pretty interesting.
Ok....London, lets see what you've got.....lets bring it on!!!!!
All Good
BP:)
side note: Kind of funny what Mitt Romney said about these Olympics.....I guess we'll see (and hear) eh Mitt?

Only 280 athletes representing the Canucks. Must not have enough time to train because of the short summers. Australia had 400+... I know, winter Olympics, blah, blah, blah.........:p

I watched it live here.....the ceremony finished around 4 hrs ago.....the actual flame lighting was another step away from tradition.....former olympians sponsoring future olympians to light the flame.

I just saw it on the US network. It was nontraditional but very fitting I thought. Looking to the future is great. And the way the 200+ flames arose and joined to form the cauldron was just way cool.

OK this is the proud Dad bit.

My son Charlie has been heavily involved in the build for the London Olympics.
He was there last night making sure his bit went off OK and boy did it!
Working 7 days a week from 7am til 4am some days and it all paid off.

I think the whole show was awesome.
Made me very proud to be a Londoner and as you can imagine a very proud Dad.

The show encompassed everything that is British, even down to 007 picking up the Queen.
Danny Boyle deserves a knighthood.

Mitt Romney, eat your hat!

To quote Matt Lauer (NBC anchorman and Olympic commentator) , after the kids jumping on the beds part... " I'm not sure if that was cute or creepy ".... lol..I did appreciate the Mr. Bean part however.... I am a long time fan of his.

...well the games are starting to pick up speed as the medals start to roll. There are a lot of Canadians pulling for Missy Franklin the U.S swimmer and they had a really great interview with her last night....seems like a really great girl and competitor. It was interesting watching the Lochte/Phelps 400m competition.....well, you can't win forever I guess.
That said, China is really coming on strong in the events....as expected? They are another country that has been recruiting kids physically from a very, very young age and stream them directly into a specific sport based on size, shape, etc...interesting approach, not really my idea of an ideal sports method...but apparently working fairly well.
We are starting to watch a little more coverage everyday as things heat up....so the China vs. U.S thing at these games will be getting more interesting everyday.;):)
