Make sure you get galvanized chain, plain chain will rust quickly, the shiny chain will take just a little longer to rust, so you want galvanized.

Like others have said, it depends on what type of anchor you have. Is it a fluke anchor? If so then the chain is the way to go. It makes it lay down so the flukes can dig in. Then you have to have the right size anchor for your boat. If the anchor is too small then the chain isn't going to help much. You can google fluke anchor and it gives you lots to look at..

Re: anchor chains or not

I was wondering if putting chains on the anchor is a must. If so then I need to get them cause it seems like everytime I try and achor I drift. I have a 18' 2000 Aquatron. If I need them how long should they be and how big? thanks for any input..

One thing I see with boats in Lake Lavon and Lake Ray Hubbard is that the captains are not putting out enough anchor line when they anchor. Typically, those are the same people who are drifting when an obnoxious wake boat comes close by throwing a huge wake or when it's windy (like 80% of the time in North Texas).

6' of chain will work for your application but I'd also recommend letting out more line when you're at anchor too.
