1st - Deprive the Anchor of water (they're always thirsty)
2nd - Focus bright lights on the Anchor )they like deep, dark places)
3rd - Begin interogation... even an Anchor will break
:D :D

Re: Anchor Idiocy

This happened on one my first fishing trips of this season:

I head out and catch some bait, which took about three hours. I then go to my favorite spot for Reds and throw out the anchor, rig two rods for bottom fishing, and lay back to rest. Well, after an hour or two and no bites, I get up to check my lines. I am sitting in about three feet of crystal clear water, and from the forward deck I see what looks like a brand new ancher resting on th bottom. Wow, I think to myself, so I slide into the water, wade over and pick it up. Wow, I say to myself as I see that it has about ten feet of heavy galvanized chain attatched to it, just like mine. So I gather the ancher and chain and see that it is connect to some 5/8s nylon rode, My lucky day!! I begin retrieving the new anchor, chain, and rode and it leads.......back to my boat!

Re: Anchor Idiocy

I got hung up a few trips back while off Daytona Beach. Took my nephew and myself 15 minutes trading off turns winching up the anchor. 50 feet of water and we were beat when it finally appeared fouled with two other anchors that were in the drink for a number of years based on the corrosion. Still have them, but man are they heavy. By the way, I am so glad to learn that when I break a blade on my prop that its not my fault. I was feeling so stupid for ramming the engine into gear while my prop was 10 inches deep in sand. Broke a blade off and had to swap it out with a replacement blade. Took 5 minutes because it was one of the Piranah models with removable blades. Now I know that it was the sandbars fault. Where do I contact the State of Florida for my time, blade replacement costs and of course the humiliation of it all? I feel so much better.
