anchor line question

I have approx 600' of anchor line on my primary anchor, and 20' of chain
ahead of the anchor. The anchor, chain, and line are all stowed in a bow
compartment on my 18' center console boat.

Not surprisingly, I have tangling problems when we attempt to anchor down.
I always start out taking all the line out, at the house, and then putting
it neatly back into the anchor locker. Doesn't matter. Next time the line
comes out, for whatever reason, there's invariably several snarls in the
line.

Any tricks anyone knows of that might help me keep the line organized to
where it will pay out reliably without fouling?

Re: anchor line question

i put a 1 1/2 " thru hull fitting in the bow deck, and divided my front compartment, anchor line goes down the thru hull fitting, anchor and chain comes over the bow and under the seat. no tangle problems so far. i have a bow rider.

Re: anchor line question

Huh! I'd forgotten about hat approach. My bigger boats have had the pipe with cap leading down into an anchor locker. I like the idea, and may go to that on my smaller boat to solve the problem.

I never had line fouling problems when we threaded it down through the pipe.

Out of curiosity where do you anchor your 18'er that you need 600' of anchor line?

If your using three strand nylon anchor rode, be sure its saturated wet before installing in the rode locker. If its not wet when you put it in the locker it will tangle every time.

i don't know where RBIGG is from, but here in Jacksonville the St.Johns river 'average' depth is only about 10'. but the area where every one goes to watch the fire work and thus, downtown is about 80' deep. new boaters get down the with there 50' of rope (thats, all the average boat needs here) and can't find bottom.
