It’s been a few years now since I redid my anchor line. I have a 22 foot cuddy cabin and I am looking for advice on running new anchor line. I usually anchor in 30 to 50 feet of water mostly tog fishing off a breakwall so I want something strong. I was thinking about going with 3/8 diameter 200 feet triple braid or solid. Looking for suggestions.

I would use double braid, much stronger and easier to handle

That said, your 3 laid line has worked fine this long, it should continue to do so

With a 10:1 scope, your looking at 500' of line to anchor in 50'

I myself would look at 1/2" vs 3/8. I'm using 5/8 on my 24' cuddy

So your saying two braid is stronger then 3 braid or just easier to work with?

That sounds pretty deep to be anchoring (30-50 ft). If you have a decent amount of chain, then you'll need less scope as you go deeper. So, you might be feeding 100-150 feet of rode. If you are in a high current or high wind situation, then you'll be giving more scope.

3/8" braided should be fine, but 1/2" would be even better. I'd go 25-30' of chain and 200' of line.

A couple of years ago I found 300' of 1/2" 3 strand on the intenet for $40. It along with 10' of chain, works real well on my 21 footer.

Need to keep scope to a bare minimum when fishing structure or living lining with the fleet.

I carry 250' of 3/8" DB with 10' of 3/8" chain and a #16 Danforth.

Also depends why your anchoring. I used 3/8 3 strain (200 ft) on my 23 footer. Mostly done to go swimming so 3:1 is good enough. If weather starts turning bad I'm heading in.

Used 3/8" braid on my 22' for many years with no issues, but I don't boat in bad weather. If you like to challenge mother nature a lot, then you might need heavier line, but for general purpose anchoring, good 3/8" is plenty..

Use 3/8" three strand line with 10 feet of chain.
Didn't have good luck with double braid, it always ended up in knots.
If the weather turns bad, we are going home early.

I prefer the braid, more limp and easier on my old hands. The twisted 3 strand always seem stiff and more difficult to handle and harder on the hands. But to each his own, for normal anchoring you wont have any issues with 3/8" line as long as you get good line !! I havecsaw foljs at the launch ramp with clothes line and other old cheap string to tie up there boats with....
